The last few days of 2018 has been filled with very chill, very fun times with friends and friends of friends. It may seem I do a lot, but I actually don’t. I just go to wherever my friends invite me to. And most of my friends are cool with super interesting friends and my hope is to some of their coolness to rub off onto me. That’s a lot of ‘friends’ in a paragraph.
I’ve been unlucky in a lot of things. I didn’t win the genetic lottery to be uniquely beautiful nor extraordinarily athletic. I’ve worked very, very hard for every single thing that I have, but something I can unequivocally say is that I have been blessed with an amazing family and a lot of great friends. Here’s a sample of the past week with the later.
This post is just the past week+ and only the New York friends chapter. I still have my brothers of choice and the Rancho Kids to rave about in the future.
On photography level, all of these photos are still from my new/old beloved Ricoh GR. I’ll post a simple review about that little pocket beast soon!
12.31: New Year’s at Toy’s
Whilst other New Yorkers braved the pouring rain to pay a premium to get into a club or a bar to party, we are the party! Actually most of Toy and her friends are, but you get the point. I will always prefer an intimate setting with a few friends over a crowd, and this gathering was just the right size. Amazing tunes (it’s Toy, of course music will be stellar) and great drinks, fresh oysters (yes, oysters!), add a bit of bedroom dance party equals a happy New Year’s eve.
12.25: Christmas at the Pandas’
The Pandas are power couple of Abby (Trash Panda) and Katie (Fancy Panda). Another small contingent spent Christmas Day dinner at their spot where they prepared, amongst other things, a bacon-wrapped turkey. The Pandas even gifted us our Harry Potter House letterman jackets! I’m a Hufflepuff and proud of it. We are ready for our Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Universal Orlando Resort trip next week! Nerds, yes, but still cool.
12.23: Erotic Billionaire Dinosaurs Bowling inaugural Practice
Our former-office-friends-now-just-friends-friends-recreational team, The Erotic Billionaire Dinosaurs (EBD), have conquered softball (2x champs), basketball (2x champ also) and cornhole (2x champs again! And, yes, that cornhole). In 2019, we will try to summit the sport of bowling! And of our first practice at the Gutter Bar, Brooklyn is any indication, we might have a shot… while taking a lot of shots and other drinks.
Our team name was derived from the work of our generation’s best author, Chuck Tingle. You all should check him out. You’re welcome.
12.22: Tamales-making party at Toy’s
We made tamales, drank a bunch, listened to great music, and enjoyed each others’ company. What a great way to start the holiday weekend! From the brainchild of Texas-raised Toy made amazing masa, shredded pork, beans, corn and cheese and the rest of us assembled the final product before steaming. We made at least 100 of these and I went home with a dozen pork tamales which I devoured at home in the days after.
I don’t think I will be doing much of these diary-like entries, but I want to warm up to this blogging thing. Thanks for humoring me.
